What does "Authorize provisioning" mean?

"Authorize provisioning" is an extra security layer (kind of like 2FA/MFA) designed to prevent unauthorized access and use of your hardware terminals. It acts as a digital gatekeeper, ensuring that a terminal is being set up by its rightful owner and not by a malicious actor who might have found or stolen a device.

This feature is currently only enabled for Yealink terminals.

Why do I see this message on my terminal?

The "Authorize provisioning" message appears when a terminal requires manual approval to connect to our system. This can happen in three scenarios:

  1. New Terminals: A new terminal has been purchased or added to our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) feature but has not been connected within 30 days. This initial 30-day window allows new devices to be provisioned automatically. If they don't, they will require manual authorization.

  2. Inactive Terminals: A terminal that has been successfully provisioned in the past has been offline for more than 60 days. This is a security measure to prevent the reactivation of lost, stolen, or otherwise inactive devices.

  3. Factory Reset: You have performed a factory reset directly on the device. When the terminal attempts to provision again, it will require authorization. If you do a factory reset directly from Telavox instead of on the device, then the device will automatically be authorized.

How do I "Authorize Provisioning"?

If you see the "Authorize provisioning!" message on your terminal, you must manually approve it through the Admin portal.

To authorize provisioning navigate to the Admin portal > Hardware > Choose the terminal > Press the three dots in the top right > Authorize provisioning.

  1. Navigate to the Admin portal.

  2. Go to Hardware.

  3. Choose the correct terminal.

  4. Press the three dots () in the top right corner.

  5. Select Authorize provisioning.

Once you press the button, a new "First sync until" date/time will be added to the terminal's details. This gives the terminal another 30-day window to provision.

Note: If your terminal is currently displaying the "Authorize provisioning!" message, you don't need to restart or reset it. Once you've authorized provisioning in the Admin portal, the terminal will automatically try to connect again every minute and should successfully provision on its own within a few minutes.
